Over 200 gardens from Monterey to Humboldt Bay

California Gardens describes over 200 gardens from Monterey to Humboldt County in Northern California that are open to the public on a scheduled or occasional basis. It includes arboretums, botanical gardens, public parks, college campuses, hotels, nurseries, wineries, and private estates that showcase the extraordinary variety of plants that thrive across the region. Future updates will add locations in Los Angeles and Southern California.

The landscape styles range from native meadows and culinary gardens to formal traditional and modernist designs. See About Garden Styles for a list of categories.

Few works of mankind are more ephemeral than a garden. A single season’s neglect can destroy a decade of devoted attention. To avoid disappointment, especially in these times of civic financial distress, check on the current status of any garden described in this guide before planning to visit.

Except where noted, the author has visited every garden in this app. If you wish to contribute additional information or photographs for these or any other gardens for future releases please contact us using the “Got somethin’ to add” link below.
